Resident Owned Parks has announced acquisition of Arcata Mobilehome Park in Arcata, California. Park acquisition was made possible through financial support of the City of Arcata. Acquisition of Arcata Mobilehome Park is the second park purchased by nonprofit ROP in the City of Arcata, following the March 2007 purchase of Sandpiper Park, also with assistance from the City of Arcata. The city is committed to the preservation of affordable housing and the ROP nonprofit purchase of both Sandpiper and Arcata Mobilehome Park helped the city to preserve a number of affordable housing units for low income individuals. Not only did the City of Arcata provide financial assistance for purchase of the park, it has committed additional funding for both parks in order to accomplish a rehab and upgrade of infrastructure. Additionally, low income residents of both parks are eligible for First Time Homebuyer Loan Assistance made available through the City of Arcata so that they can purchase new mobilehomes to replace their older units. This help enables both low income residents and the surrounding community to benefit according to Maurice Priest, president of ROP. Following completion of rehab, the overall appearance of both parks will be dramatically improved, and a number of park residents will be able to occupy new manufactured homes.
